LIGHTING UP UTAH YELLOW

Utah is joining the national movement to illuminate America in yellow on January 27 in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The state’s participation strengthens awareness and reinforces the importance of remembrance across the region.

With each new location involved, Utah continues to support Holocaust education and the fight against antisemitism. We invite additional cities, institutions, and landmarks across the state to join the initiative. Please contact the coalition if your Utah location would like to participate.

Clearfield City Hall

Mayor Mark Shepherd of Clearfield City, Utah heard about our Light up Yellow project through his involvement fighting antisemitism and hate with one of our partners, Combat Antisemitism Movement. Mayor Shepherd said, "You cannot have freedom or liberty without responsibility. I believe part of that responsibility is ensuring our children understand the Holocaust. I brought the touring Holocaust exhibit to Clearfield this past October and felt that lighting the building yellow in January was a great follow up to that."

Statue of Responsibility

Mayor Mark Shepherd (center left) at the dedication of the Statue of Responsibility, sculpted by Gary Lee Price and inspired by Viktor Frankl in his book "Man's Search for Meaning". This 15 foot bronze statue was unveiled at Alliant International University, San Diego, California honoring Frankl's legacy as a Holocaust survivor, author and former faculty member. A 300-foot national monument project of this state is planned in Utah to bookend the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast. Together these iconic landmarks will remind us, that in the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "Freedom makes a requirement of every human being, with Freedom comes great responsibility."
